KOCHI: The High Court took a suo motu cognizance on the basis of a letter written by former Kottayam Police chief N. Ramachandran pointing out the drug usage and crime in the state. The division bench also considered Keralakaumudi’s editorial regarding the same.

As the suit is with a nature of public interest, the bench directed the high court registry to take the case to an appropriate bench. The letter of N. Ramachandran specially mentions the usage of drugs and its implications. There aren’t any systems in the state to find the usage of drugs. The letter then mentions about a testing kit in Vadodara, Gujarat which could be made available in Kerala.
