THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Some constituencies will have star status due to the contesting individuals and toughness. The capital city is at the first place for such a stature, followed by Vadakara. Pathanamthitta is at a possible third position though the announcement of the BJP candidate is still pending.
The BJP lost by 15470 votes even after coming first at four of the seven Assembly constituencies. They were pushed down to the third position at all three remaining Assembly constituencies by a large margin. The BJP assumes to get maximum Hindu votes and a good share at constituencies with Nadar influence. Congress believes that they can count on minority and coastal area votes. LDF believes that they can secure the votes that Bennett Abraham lost in the last Lok Sabha polls.
The BJP believes that they have a vote share of at least one lakh at all 20 Lok Sabha constituencies. In 2014, Congress won at Vadakara with a majority of 3306 votes. The BJP secured over 75,000 votes back then. CPM is wary of the fact that the anti-leftist forces could join hands against P. Jayarajan.
There are several allegations that parties have against each other in the first phase of the election campaign. The CPM alleges that a new version of Co-Le-B (Congress-League-BJP) alliance will be tested against them at five constituencies. The Congress countered that by saying that it is an anticipatory bail for losing.
