The next one month before Lok Sabha election will be a period of vigorous campaign as the list of candidates have already been published.
The election zest is something that may beat the strong summer heat. When political campaigners go crazy with political battle in order to ensure their party’s victory, the election commission’s model code of conduct stands tall like a wall. But that may not be enough to rein in the overenthusiastic political workers.
Compared to North Indian states, the pre-poll violence is less in Kerala. Still, there may be some sporadic incidents of violence at the height of political spirit.
All parties should maintain peaceful atmosphere in the State in the run up to the election. All party workers should be advised not to malign the reputation of the State.
It is natural for party workers to get the kick of competition and rivalry as the campaigns hot up.
As campaigns progress from writings made on walls, clashes and run-ins between workers from different political parties will be a usual sight. Most often, big clashes start from trivial arguments. From the beginning, party leaderships should take special care to avoid faring up of tension. All parties should try to ensure that campaigns are carried out in a healthy manner.
Though there are days left for submitting nominations, campaigns have started in all important constituencies.
Only BJP had delayed announcement of candidates for two seats. It will definitely be an acid test for candidates and party workers as they will have to go from door to door in the blistering sun, asking for votes.
As there are many topics including Sabarimala issue to be discussed during the election campaign, there won’t be dearth of topics to be highlighted. This will be a blessing for all parties.
There are chances for high-octane polls leading to illegal activities and even murder of individuals. Such situations should be avoided.
Campaigns should be the ones that will suit the dignity of candidates since all of them are revered and well-known persons.
It is a truth that nobody can fool the voters as they are elite people with political consciousness. Hence the candidates will have to go that extra mile to reach their goal. The majority of voters are people with clear stand of their own so it would be difficult to lure them with extravaganza and bogus promises.
Nevertheless, candidates are forced to meet as much voters as possible in person and seek votes. Along with candidates, party workers will also have to sweat it out in the summer sun.
