THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Central agencies and Intelligence scrambled to investigate soon after sighting a drone under mysterious circumstances past 12 am on Friday in the coastal area between Kovalam beach and Thumba that included the main operating centre of VSSC.
The drone was first sighted by the night patrol police team at 12.55 am over the Samudra beach in Kovalam. They noticed the camera in a search conducted by the control room police team after hearing the humming of a vehicle like scooter.
The drone was spotted again at 2.55 a.m near VSSC but the CISF jawans didn’t shoot it down as it was a civilian area.Though an intensified search was conducted at the beach and nearby places, they could not find anything. When the drone moved towards north, the control room sent a message to the airport.
Central Intelligence, Military and RAW officals have started investigation. Though Radar data available from Air Force’ Mookkunnimala unit and Southern Air Command was examined, no information was obtained. The radar at the airport also had failed to detect the drone.
The authorities have already sought the help of ISRO to find out the drone by checking satellite cameras.
Meanwhile, Manoj Abraham (Additional DGP, South) said that “radars will be checked again to find out the drone. Satellite help will also be sought. However, there is not threat to security.”
