rahul-gandhi-will-contest

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress president Rahul Gandhi will contest from Wayanad in the Lok Sabha election. KPCC President Mullappally Ramachandran will make an official announcement at 2 p.m. T. Siddique, who was to fight from the constituency will back out to make way for Rahul Gandhi.

Chandy, the AICC general secretary, said that KPCC had demanded that Rahul Gandhi fight from Wayanad.

Meanwhile, KPCC chief Ramesh Chennithala has said that Rahul Gandhi will be fighting from Amethi and will win with huge majority there. Rahul Gandhi is facing BJP's Smrithi Irani in Amethi and the fight is expected to be a formidable one.

As Wayanad is a safe seat for Congress and since Rahul Gandhi had expressed his interest to fight from a seat in the South, Chandy suggested Wayanad as the best option. According to the traditions of the Nehru family, Karnataka was the usual second constituency. KPCC hopes that Rahul fighting from the Wayanad constituency will have a positive reflection across the state.

The allied parties within the UDF have also welcomed Rahul Gandhi to contest from Wayanad.
