KOLLAM: As government treasuries are completely computerized, bills that are cashed after 12 a.m. on March 30th will be accounted in the next fiscal year. This will put an end to the practice of entering the bills altogether at once until the early hours of April 1.
The current fiscal year will end on March 30, as 31st is Sunday. In light of this, the finance department issued a circular to bring bills, cheques, and receipts before 5 p.m. on March 28.
There is no assurance that the bill will be cashed before the 30th of this month, even if it is submitted early. Bills that are received after 27th will be lined up in the treasury queue and will be prioritized accordingly with the serial number. If the bills are received in large number, those received even before 28th of March might not be cashed before the end of the fiscal year.
Total funds of Rs 129.46 crores are in the treasury of local self-government institution in Kollam. There are funds twice this amount with the government departments. A large portion of this amount will be lost if the officers, MLAs, and MPs don’t act accordingly.
