THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a probe report submitted by Secretariat food department to the government, it is alleged that some SupplyCo employees embezzled Rs 82 crore from the corporation fund.
The offence occurred due to the incompetent functioning of the Vigilance. In order to add more teeth to the Vigilance department, an SI-rank official should be appointed under an SP rank officer. SupplyCo goods are bought through e-tendering. The samples of goods bought thus should be checked through five regional offices and after that Vigilance should check it.
From East Fort People Bazar itself an official had found an embezzlement of Rs 20 lakh and he also reported it. Soon after that the cheaters made attempts to bring back the stolen goods. As the Vigilance started investigation days later, the misappropriated fund was found to be only Rs 11.5 lakh.
Kerala Kaumudi had reported the anomaly in October.
In the report, it is also recommended to stop purchasing of medicines from medical shops through a particular manager
