THIRUVNANATHAPURAM: Malayinkeezhu native Sreekumar (45), who allegedly killed his wife and Vattiyoorkavu native Rajani Krishna (40, Sharika) reportedly confessed to the police that he killed her in a fit of rage after she failed to take his phone call.
Sreekumar and Rajani have been living separately for some time and on Tuesday, he called on her mobile phone but Rajani didn’t pick up the call. Angered by Rajani’s indifference, Sreekumar went to her house in Vattiyoorkavu from his Malayinkeezhi Meppukada house in the evening.

On his way, he also bought liquor, which he started drinking after reaching her house. After consuming alcohol, he picked a quarrel with his wife over her refusal to take the phone.
In between the tussle, he stabbed Rajani on her neck and stomach with the knife he was carrying with him.
Rajani’s father Krishnan Nair (72) and mother Rama Devi (68) were injured when they tried to protect Rajani from getting attacked. Though the locals rushed the three to Peroorkada hospital, Rajani’s life could not be saved.
In the incident, Krishnan Nair sustained severe injuries below the chest and backside of his body while Rema Devi sustained injury on her shoulder and face. Both are currently under treatment in Thiruvananthapuram Medical College.

The couple’s 13 year old daughter had a narrow escape as she cried aloud, seeing the crime, got into the house and locked the door. Sreekumar who tried to flee the scene after the murder was caught by the locals and handed over to Vattiyoorkavu police.

The shocking murder took place on Tuesday evening at about 6:30.

Sreekumar married Rajani 15 years ago. A Gulf-returnee, he has been living separated from her wife due to some family issues. Police said Sreekumar is an alcoholic and drug-addict.
He was produced in the court on Wednesday after medical examination and gathering of evidence.
Rajani Krishna was an employee of a medical shop in Peyad. The body was handed over to relatives after post-mortem. Kodunganoor Bharatheeya Vidhyabhavan Plus One Student Mithun and Eight standard student Mithula are the couple’s children.
Krishnan Nair was the CPM Melathumela Branch secretary but now he is a branch member. Krishnan Nair and Rema Devi are former PSC staff.
