THODUPUZHA: The condition of the seven-year-old child tortured by a youth staying with his mother at Kumaramangalam near Thodupuzha in Idukki is very serious. He is in the ventilator of Kolencherry Medical College. Police said the youth, a native of Thiruvananthapuram, has been arrested. A case has been registered against him for murder attempt. The child was subjected to torture by the youth identified as Arun Anand and his own mother on Wednesday night. The child’s younger brother aged three was also beaten. The child who sustained serious head injuries was subjected for an emergency operation. The child lost his vision also.

The younger child told child welfare committee that they were beaten by the youth. Child welfare committee chairman Dr Joseph Augustine said they have given a report to Thodupuzha police asking them to register a case against the youth as per Juvenile Justice Act 75. The woman’s husband died seven months back. Soon after his death, his relative started living with the woman. The younger child is now under the custody of the woman’s mother.
