NEW DELHI: It has been hinted that if Congress chief Rahul Gandhi is not contesting in the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, then AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi is likely to fill that seat. Reports say the Wayanad seat is kept vacant to consider such a possibility. Some Kerala leaders working in the national level have proposed this before the high command. If Prime Minister Narendra Modi contests anywhere in south India, then they want either Priyanka or Rahul in the fray. Hints say that an announcement on this will be made only in the last moment.
Congress leadership assess that if Rahul withdraws from the fray and T Siddique replaces him then it would be a big setback for them. So, the state leadership wants a strong leader from the national leader to replace Rahul and have informed the high command for Priyanka’s candidature.
The Congress leaders expect that the resemblance of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the description of being the youngest of the Nehru family would turn as votes for Priyanka.
The Left Front is against the idea of Rahul Gandhi contesting in Wayanad. However, the congress leadership believe that they won’t express displeasure if Priyanks contests from Wayanad. A decision will be taken soon on the candidate for the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat.
