MALAPPURAM: IUML expressed their discontent to High Command over the delay in announcing the candidate at Wayanad. IUML President Hyderali Shihab Thangal made their concern known that the delay will affect other constituencies as well. The decision was taken after an urgent meeting at Panakkad on Saturday in the presence of P.K. Kunjalikutty and K.P.A. Majeed.

The IUML leaders fear that the delay might affect the winning majority. There is an existing conflict between IUML and Congress at Ponnani. Meanwhile, P.V. Anwar, the independent candidate with leftist support, is way ahead in campaigning. The massive dip in the majority of E.T. Muhammed Basheer has also set the alarm bells ringing.

Any leaks in Congress votes will make a significant impact in ET’s vote share. Rahul’s candidature at Wayanad was seen as a welcome boost by the IUML.
