rahul-gandhi

NEW DELHI: Ending all speculations, Congress Sunday announced that party president Rahul Gandhi will contest from Wayanad along with Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.

The announcement was made by senior party leader AK Antony at a press conference convened at the party headquarters in Delhi.

There were several requests for Rahul to contest from Wayanad, he added. Such a decision was taken taking into account the feelings of South Indian activists. Three states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala had voiced the demand for Rahul. The party decided to contest from Wayanad as the place is a confederation of the three states. It was also assessed that Wayanad is a best place for him to contest.

It is a proud moment for Kerala, said KPCC chief Mullappally Ramachandran. Rahul is fighting against fascism, he added. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan jointly broke the unity of democratic secular forces. The UDF will win all the twenty seats, he said.
