MALAPPURAM: LDF convenor A Vijayaraghavan said his statement against Remya Haridas, the UDF candidate of Alathur, were misinterpreted. I meant that the congress will be defeated in the polls. Some media misinterpreted my statement, I never tried to insult a woman, he said.

He said, “My wife is also a social worker and so I don’t like to disturb a woman. There are political disagreements but don’t have any personal grudge towards her. Neither the CPM nor the LDF speaks badly about anybody. We want women to come to the public domain, he said.

I have not said anything personally against P K Kunhalikutty or Remya. I spoke only about the political stands. The speech should be seen politically. I honour and love them and never intended to disturb them mentally. I see her as a sister and a friend, he said.

Remya told media that those working for renaissance should not personally attack them. She said that she is planning to take legal action against him. Meantime, CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan came in support of Vijayaraghavan. He said the media distorted the news. Congress activists staged protest against him and burnt his effigy.
