KOCHI: The Thrikkakkara Magistrate Court registered a case against Cardinal Mar George Alancherry in the Syro Malabar Church land deal. The court prima facie found anomalies in the land deal.

A case has been registered against Fr Joshy Pothuva, Fr Sebastian Vadakkumpadan and mediator Saju Varghese, co-accused in the case. The Thrikkakkara Magistrate Court has sent a notice to the accused.

The case was registered on the complaint of Shine Varghese, a native of Cherthala. The complaint lodged alleged cheating and financial loss on the sale of three acres of land. The police was not ready to accept the complaint and following that the case reached the high court.

The complainant has alleged that the church sold the land worth Rs 27.15 crore for 13.52 crore. The accused conspired to cheat the archdiocese and incurred loss to the church by selling 301.76 cents of land after dividing it into 36 plots.
