THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Amicus curiae’s report that mistimed opening of dams had resulted in never-before-witnessed floods in Kerala has put the LDF government in a fix. On Wednesday, Power Minister M M Mani exhibited his anger at a journalist when she asked him questions about the report.

“I have nothing to tell you...go away… when I say go, you should go. When I say I am not going to answer your question, why should you disturb me? Don’t you understand what I say,” said Mani when the journalist asked for his reaction on the report.
When the journalist persisted, the minister pointed his finger at her and blasted: “If I have to answer you, I should also feel like answering… Never again come to my house and disturb me”.

Soon after this, he got into his official car and left the scene.

Meanwhile, the amicus curiae in his report has recommended a judicial probe to find out the reason for the occurrence of recent floods in Kerala.

Amicus curiae Jacob P Alex told the high court that norms weren’t followed while opening the dams. As mud and slush covered the bottom of the dams, it got filled quickly when there was excess inflow of water. The dam authorities also didn’t seriously consider India Meteorological Department’s warnings. There was also no preparations to face heavy spells of rains.
