KOLLAM: A fisherman died after his motored fishing boat collided with an ordinary boat at Thangasseri in Kollam on Wednesday. The dead has been identified as Baiju (43), a native of Pallithottam Galileo colony and son of Alexander. His body is kept at the Kollam district hospital.
Raimond and Daniel in the same colony sustained injuries. The accident happened early morning at around 4:30, about four nautical miles from Thangasseri harbour.
The search is going on for the boat that sped away after the accident. The three had gone into the sea from Kollam harbour in the motored boat named Kanikka Matha.
It was another boatman who was trawling nearby who rescued the three men who were in the sea after their boat broke apart.
Around 5:30 am, they were transported to Kollam area in another boat that came towards them from deep sea. The rescuers had also informed the coastal police about the mishap.
Pallithottal CI JS Praveen and his team received the three and took them in an ambulance to Kollam district hospital. By the time they reached the hospital, Biju had breathed his last.
Baiju’s body was cremated in Port Church by evening after post-mortem. He is survived by his wife Juliet and children –Ajin, Abin.
Kochi Naval base joint operation team started the search for the boat that collided with the fishermen’s boat after they were informed about the mishap.
It is presumed that the boat that collided was the one that was coming towards Shakthikulangara harbour. The team hopes to find the boat by Thursday. The injured are under treatment in district hospital.
