KOTTAYAM: The NSS’ equal warmth stance to all political fronts stands inconsistent as the community paper ‘Service’ showed lean over to the UDF. After Rahul Gandhi became a candidate in the state, this was even more visible. After criticizing both the state and central government in the actions taken over the Sabarimala women entry, Service’s editorial praises UDF’s protest meets between the lines.

Nair community led the protests of Sabarimala Karma Samithy and other protests against the Sabarimala women entry. There were widespread speculations that the NSS would support the BJP.

There were rumours that the NSS mounted pressure on the BJP’s candidate selection at Pathanamthitta, the Sabarimala centric district. The BJP leadership was forced to give candidature to K. Surendran owing to his popularity. Surendran, however, was not the NSS’ desired candidate. This sparked a division between the community organization and the right wing party.
