MALAPPURAM: The police took one person into custody from Edapal in Malappuram for beating a ten-year-old girl, who came to collect scrap. He has been identified as Raghavan, former panchayat president of Vattangulam. A case was registered against him for non-bailable offenses. Police said that Raghavan, CPM former area secretary beat the girl cruelly.

Meantime, the girl is undergoing treatment in the hospital. She has sustained head injuries. Police said that Raghavan had warned her from collecting scrap on the road side. As she did not listen to him, he beat her cruelly. She told police that he beat her with the sack used for collecting scrap. Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala visited her in the hospital.
