THRISSUR: The Supreme Court permitted fireworks display for Thrissur Pooram. The court allowed fireworks display for Pooram while observing that the celebration is a part of the social and cultural beliefs of Thrissur. The court also relaxed the restrictions imposed on crackers and timing of fireworks.
Meantime, the court has directed to use crackers permitted by central agency for the fireworks. The court said they have not restricted any customs of the temple.
The bench was hearing a plea by Paramekkavu and Thiruvambadi Devaswoms which fund the annual Pooram festival held in the premises of the famous Vadakkunnathan Temple in Thrissur, to permit fireworks display.
