KALPETTA: A police report mentioned that there is a Maoist threat to the candidates of Wayanad constituency. Following the threat, security including a gunman has been strengthened for candidates P P Suneer and Thushar Vellappally in Wayanad. Security has been intensified on the basis of the report of special branch that there are chances to murder or abduct candidates campaigning in the forest areas.
Meantime, pamphlets distributed days before have asked farmers in Wayanad to boycott polls. The pamphlets distributed in the name of CPI Maoist of Nadukani area panel reached Kalpetta Press Club via post.
The changing governments are adopting anti-peasant policies and so the polls should be boycotted, the Maoists said. The police are conducting a probe seriously as Congress chief Rahul Gandhi is contesting here. The presence of Maoists were noticed here weeks before. Maoist leader C P Jaleel was killed in Lakkidy. Security was tightened in Wayanad after this incident.
