NEW DELHI: AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi has expressed her willingness to contest against Prime Minister Narendran Modi in Varanasi. She has informed her stand to the high command and also to Rahul Gandhi. A final decision has to be taken by the high command.

The decision of the congress leadership was that she need not contest polls as she has the heavy responsibility of the election campaign. She expressed her willingness to contest as polls in Varanasi are on the last phase of May 19 and it will not affect campaigning.

Meantime, BSP and SP alliance have so far not announced their candidate against Modi in Varanasi. It is hinted that this is because of the reports of Priyanka to contest in Varanasi.
