gold

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested four officers at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport in relation to smuggling over 100 kilograms of gold in the past six months. Air India Stats employee Kayamkulam native Faisal, Pathanamthitta native Roni, ground handling agency Bhadra’s employee Ernakulam native Mebin Joseph, Attingal native Nabeel and a mediator named Uwais are the arrested accused.

The arrest of airport employees came after an investigation in relation to seizing 50 gold biscuits last Thursday. The gold is smuggled on airplanes that stop at taxiway instead of aerobridge. The gold is then handed over to the assigned airport employees on the bus provided by airline companies. If there are customs officers, employees at emigration hall will take the bag and might drop it at a waste bin. This will be collected by another employee and later handed over to Uwais who’ll be waiting outside the airport.
