PARASSALA: A complaint has been lodged against a CPM local leader and his aides for allegedly beating a minor girl and an old woman. Udiyinkulangara Elluvila Kadayaraputhen house resident Velappan (69) and his grand-daughter Athira AT (16) were the ones who are said to have received the blows.
The incident reportedly happened at Udiyinkulangara junction at 11 on Sunday night. What resulted in the tussle is the row over setting up of BJP’s polling booth office in the region.
The boards and flags brought by the BJP workers to open the booth on Velappan’s land were destroyed by the CPM men. In the quarrel that ensued, CPM leader Baiju (42) assaulted Velappan and his son Ani.
The girl who tried to prevent the assault on her father and grandfather was allegedly kicked on her stomach and chest. The CPM leader also “hit her knees”.
The girl, who sustained fracture on her leg was admitted to Parassala Taluk hospital.
The relatives of the victims also alleged that, soon after the incident, certain CPM leaders had approached them, asking them not to file a case over the incident. They threatened them against legal moves but finally offered a government job and house for the girl’s mother in return for keeping mum on the incident.
As the girl’s condition worsened, she was shifted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. Parassala police will record the girl’s statement today.
