THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Thiruvananthapuram UDF candidate Shashi Tharoor, who was injured at Gandhari Amman temple in the City on Monday while he was offering Thulabharam, was discharged from Medical College hospital by 3 pm on Tuesday.
Nine stiches had to be applied on his head injury but MRI scan and other tests did not show any complication.

Meanwhile, temple authorities said that the overenthusiasm and carelessness of party workers resulted in the mishap. They explained that the iron balancing scale of the equipment didn’t fall on his head and the injury was caused by his heading banging against ‘homa kunda’.

“During the thulabharam offering about 20 workers were with Tharoor. Several times we told them to be careful and calm in order to carry out the procedure peacefully. But our advice fell on deaf ears. The stool put beneath the wooden plank to balance the weight was pushed back by some worker. It was then that the balance scale came off,” temple secretary R P Nair explained.
Following the incident, the Thulabharam was suspended and it will resume only next month.
