THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Women's Commission (KWC) Wednesday registered a case against K Sudhakaran, Congress candidate from Kannur, for sharing a video with anti-women content on his Facebook page.
A suo motu case has been registered against Sudhakaran on the basis of media reports.
The case was registered as directed by chairperson M C Josephine.
The video, shared by Sudhakaran on social media shows an aged patriarchal man saying it was a mistake to send a woman there (indirectly referring to Parliament), who was educated as a teacher, as she was incapable of getting things done.
Sudhakaran had shared the video along with a disclaimer saying it does not refer to any characters, dead or alive, or "those who have made speeches in Parliament."
Kannur district is witnessing a replay of fight between veterans of the Congress and the CPM.
CPM candidate P K Sreemathi, who is often referred to as Sreemathi teacher, had won the seat last time defeating Sudhakaran with a margin of around 6,500 votes.
Earlier, Sudhakaran had courted controversy over his anti-women remarks while targeting Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
He had said the chief minister had failed to act as a man when it came to running his office and his tenure was worse than that of women.
Meanwhile, Remya Haridas, the Congress candidate from Alathur constituency has moved a local court in Palakkad alleging the "lackadaisical" attitude of police in a case filed by her.
Haridas had filed a case against LDF convenor Vijayaraghavan, who had allegedly made some sexist remarks against her.
Though her statement was taken by police, no further action followed, she said.
