KOCHI: The two-week-old baby who was rushed in an ambulance from a hospital in Wayanad to Amrita hospital in Ernakulam is under the close observation of doctors.
According to the doctors the condition of the child admitted to the ICU is still serious.
A decision on operation may be taken only after 24-hour observation.
“The condition of the heart is perilous. The fault of the heart valve is a big challenge. Hence the doctors are trying to prepare the child for surgery at the earliest,” said hospital authorities.
The surgery will be performed only after the functioning of liver, kidney and brain is found to be normal and after it is confirmed that there is no infection in the body.
The initial plan of the parents was to take the child to Sree Chithra Institute in Thiruvananthapuram but due to the intervention of Health Minister K K Shailaja, the child was rushed to Amrita hospital in Ernakulam. The government also came forward, offering to foot the child’s medical bill.
