KOCHI: The heart surgery of the 17-days-old baby that was brought urgently from a private hospital in Mangalore to Amrita Hospital in Kochi has been carried out successfully. The baby was later shifted to the ICU. The operation began after keeping the baby under observation for 24 hours. The operation was carried out by a team led by Paediatric cardiologist Dr Brijesh and Dr. Krishnakumar, the Head of Pediatric Cardiology Department.
The baby who was in need of immediate treatment for a heart ailment was first referred to the SCT Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. However, on the intervention of K.K. Shylaja, the Health Minister, treatment was facilitated at the Amrita Hospital in Kochi. The minister has also ensured that the treatment costs would be fully undertaken by the government.
