KOTTAYAM: Banks are witnessing an unprecedented rush of old timers as welfare funds of both the central and state government have been credited into the accounts of the eligible at around the same time.

Modi’s PM Kissan Samman grants Rs 500 monthly thereby amounting to Rs 6000 a year. In the light of elections, the whole amount has reached the bank accounts of those who have applied earlier. On hearing the BJP activists that money has reached the accounts, many people that haven’t yet applied made it to the respective branches of their banks. The bank employees have a difficult task in hand to make these people understand.

The LDF government’s old age pension and widow pension is fixed at Rs 1000 per month. For farmers this is Rs 1200 per month. This amount has already reached the bank accounts of the applied. People reach out to banks asking for ‘Pinarayi’s money’.

Bank employees say that old timers do not prefer ATM cards as most of them fear losing their cash.
