THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state is moving to polling booths after weeks of election campaign for the 17th Lok Sabha polls. Voting started at 7 am itself in twenty constituencies. Voting is from 7 am to 6 pm at 24,970 polling stations in the state. A large queue of voters is seen at various polling stations from morning itself. There are 227 candidates in 20 constituencies. Out of the 227 candidates, 23 are women. Those who don’t have election identity cards, can cast votes after producing 11 identity documents including passport, driving license, aadhar and pan cards.
Officials confirmed that voting machines had no problems after conducting mock poll before the start of polling. Some faults were detected in voting machines in some booths in between mock poll. The issues were solved before the start of the polling. Some are being solved.
There are a total of 2.61 crore voters in the state. Out of it, 2,88,191 are first time voters. Malappuram has the largest number of voters and the lowest in Wayanad.
