THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The action of taking case against a person who complained of malfunctions in voting machines cannot be approved at all, said opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala. Which law says to take case against complainants’, asked Chennithala. The action of the chief electoral officer cannot be accepted at all. The leader slammed the argument that the complainant should himself prove the technical issue.

The police had taken a case against Ebin, a voter of Pattom Kendriya Vidyalaya in Thiruvananthapuram, for his allegation that the vote he cast for his candidate had gone to another candidate. As he could not prove is allegation, a case has been taken against him as per Section 117. Though glitches were alleged in the morning, election commission explained that they were all technical issues. The vote one casts going to another candidate is impossible and there is no need for any anxiety.

When more complaints came in, the commission asked them to prove it. The commission believes that the complaints against voting machines can be blocked through this. However, political parties are concerned that voters will become lazy to voice honest complaints against voting machines.
