THALASSERY: Eight persons collapsed and died while waiting to cast their votes for the Lok Sabha polls. The incident happened when the voters were waiting to cast votes in queues at Kannur, Pathanamthitta and Kollam.
Vijayi (65) was waiting for her turn to vote at the Chokli Rama Vilasam L P School booth near Panur, which comes under Vatakara constituency, when she collapsed. Though she was rushed to hospital, she could not be saved. The incident happened Tuesday morning at 9 am. She had some health issues. She came to cast her vote with her son. Though she was taken to the hospital, her life could not be saved.
M P Chacko Mathai of Vadasserikkara collapsed and died after entering the polling booth. Mani (63) of Kollam also collapsed and died. He collapsed while talking to the polling officer after his name was found missing in the voters list.
K R Baburaj of Kasargod fell down and died while he was on his way to cast vote. Mehabooba of Palakkad too collapsed and died. She collapsed when a polling officer was applying ink on her finger at the polling booth. Rosamma Ousepe (84) of Thalayolapparambu also collapsed and died.
Prabhakaran (74) collapsed and died at the Kandiyoor UP School while standing in queue to cast his vote. A K Musthafa (52), a local leader of the Muslim League collapsed and died in Thalassery.
In another incident, 72-year-old Venugopala Marar, who complained of uneasiness after reaching home from the polling station, was declared brought dead at the cooperative hospital in Thaliparamba.
