THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It has been ten months since the welfare funds for the caretakers bedridden and mentally challenged people stopped. As ‘Ashwasakiranam’ project stopped funds due to debts, they have lost their small income.

‘Ashwasakiranam’ was started for the economically weak who cannot afford home nurses. Even though the pay is a measly Rs. 600, it was a relief for some.

The authorities say that there is a shortage of funds. There are 1,20,000 beneficiaries currently. In order to fund these people, the authorities need Rs 86 crores. According to Dr. Muhammad Asheel, only Rs. 48 crores are set aside.
