THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The vigilance gets permission to prosecute SIDCO former MD Saji Basheer, accused in many corruption cases. He is an accused in almost ten cases including sale of sand and illegal appointment during the tenure of the UDF Government. The prosecution gave permission now in the case of illegal sale of sand worth crores from the land of the industries department in Menamkulam while serving as SIDCO MD. He is currently under suspension. Six including Saji are accused in the case.
A contract was given to remove sand from SIDCO’s land for the development of telecom City Project. The vigilance found that sand worth crore were transported from the government’s land in Menamkulam more than the value fixed. Anomalies of Rs 11,3100,000 had taken place. The vigilance had filed a charge sheet accusing Saji Basheer the then MD of SIDCO. The case was registered by vigilance after a detailed probe was conducted on the complaint. The government had incurred loss on the deal.
