THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: If bogus voting is proved, the police can file a case against the offender under IPC 171. Impersonation, influencing voters by unlawfully threatening him or her and forging documents are charges made under Section 171 (D). As per Section 171 (F), the convict can get a year’s imprisonment or a fine or both. Under Representative of the people’s act, 1951, it is a non-bailable offence that can invite one year jail term.

Election officer will have face punishment

Those officers abetting bogus voting will also be prosecuted for offences such as dereliction of duty and hampering election procedures under Representative of the people’s act. They will have to face departmental action including suspension.
