KANNUR: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan came down heavily on chief electoral officer Teeka Ram Meena for his allegation of bogus voting in Kasargod and Kannur constituencies. The allegation against the LDF on bogus voting is totally baseless. Meena was not ready to seek an explanation from the three accused of bogus voting. Meena should be ready to correct his mistakes, he said.
Kodiyeri asked on what grounds he is asking the arraigned panchayat president to quit his post. Only the state election commission can cancel the panchayat member’s post. But Meena is behaving in such a way that he is above them. The act of Meena will be dealt legally, he said.
The CCTV cameras were installed for the election to be transparent. According to the RTI Act, the video will be obtained whoever demands it.
According to the Chief Election Officer, there is no open voting system. As per forum M 18, any blind or weak person can cast votes using a helper. On what basis, he is saying there is no such mechanism. There were no wheelchairs in many booths to help the weak. Why camera was not installed in sensitive booths. The election commission did not make arrangements to transport sick to the booths, he said. Meena is trying to stain the image of the LDF, he said.
