CHENNAI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted a raid in three places in the backdrop of reports that ISIS is planning an attack in Kerala. The NIA team from Kochi raided Karakkal, Kumbakonam and Ramanathapuram. The raid was conducted in the offices of SDPI, Popular Front and Thowheeth Jama'ath.

Riyaz Aboobacker arrested in ISIS case had given statement that they had planned for a terror attack in Kerala. Soon after that, the NIA conducted a raid at three places in Tamil Nadu. Some important documents were confiscated in the raid. The NIA had obtained information that Riyaz, a native of Muthalamada in Palakkad, has links with some groups in Tamil Nadu. Information was obtained that he was engaged in online chatting with some in Tamil Nadu. Not only that, a team including Riyaz tried to collect some explosives for the attack.

The raid by the NIA was in the wake of these details and the attack in Sri Lanka. Riyaz was a staunch admirer of Saharan Hashim, the main conspirator of the Sri Lankan attack and religious speaker Zakir Naik. He constantly communicated with Abdul Rasheed Abdulla and Abdul Kahyoom, accused in ISIS case.

The NIA had earlier questioned three from Tirunelveli on suspicion.
