child-murder

CHERTHALA: The police may seek the custody of Athira, who was remanded in connection with the murder of her 15-year-old child at Pattanakkadu Puthiyakavil.

Though the police have collected evidence and statement, they didn’t take Athira to the house at Kollamveli colony fearing attack from the public.
As the mother has confessed to the crime, police will initiate further procedures after knowing the opinion of the doctor who had conducted the autopsy and the forensic experts who had collected scientific evidence.
Athira had given the statement that immediate provocation and her constant hatred for the child had led to the murder.
But the police have not taken this at face value.
The locals said as Athira didn’t protect the child, her husband Sharon had quit his job in a biscuit company and remained confined to the house for months together.
It was only recently that he started going to a fish company at Aroor.
Sharon frequently quarrelled with Athira over her mentality to neglect the child, which even resulted in fights, according to the police.
As Sharon started beating her, she began to behave more cruelly towards the child.

Months ago Athira was remanded and sent to Mavelikkara sub-jail for beating her mother-in-law. But when she started troubling other jail inmates, she was shifted to Thiruvananthapuram Women’s jail.
