ALALAPPUZHA: A police team led by CI P K Sabu arrested a five-member gang including a woman, who had been committing fraud after going about in police dress.
Kottayam Panachikkadu Kolladu Vattakkunnil house resident Shaimol P Paul (40), Ernakulam Mulavukadu Ponnarimangalam Mulavukadu Pulithura house resident Manu Francis (27), Alappuzha Kalavur Mararikulam Thekku Kulavakkil house resident Manu (25), Kottayam Aymanam Olashery Chellithara house resident Bijoy Mathew (20), Pathanamthitta Perumbetty Kandahinkal house resident Sony Thomas (24) are the persons arrested from Kayamkulam Cheravally.
They were arrested based on a complaint of a Thamarakkulam native.
The fraud was done in the name of giving training to Traffic guardians in the name of Training Force.
The fee charged from a person ranged from Rs 5000 to Rs Rs 10000. The fraud was committed after giving the assurance on postings to the vacancies of Guard, Office Staff and Driver

In 2018, there existed a case against the gang in Kottayam East Station.

About two months ago, they started recruitment after taking a two-storey building for rent at Kayamkulam Cheravalli.
They took Rs 5000 from Thamarakkulam native in the name of recruitment as Office Staff.
As the candidate failed to get the job, he lodged a complaint with Kayamkulam CI. The arrests followed this. The gang used to wear the uniform of policemen of the ranks of DySP and CI.
