epidemics

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Health Department has given form to a permanent system to tackle deadly foreign diseases that is unheard of.

Now onwards, every death related to epidemics will be scientifically evaluated by a 9 men team of State Death Audit Panel. The deep-lying reason of deaths will be found. Reasons that could have been avoided will be sorted out. If the cause of death couldn’t be found, a probe will be done at hospital and residence through verbal autopsy system to find it.

In the state, where there are over 500 epidemic deaths annually, precautions are not effective. The Death Audit Panel will look for the change in the form of viruses, cause of each death and the effectiveness of medicines, thereby eliminating epidemic death step by step.

The panel consists of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Associate Professor Dr. Selvarajan Chettiar, Dr R. Jyothi, Dr. Toni Lawrence, Assistant Professor Dr. Sheeja Sugunan, Public Health Assistant Director Dr. V. Anil, Dr. Syam Sundar from Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital, Thycaud Hospital Paediatric Consultant Dr. Bennett Sailam, Dr. Renuka from State PH Lab and Dr Sumi from Health Department Directorate. This panel will form a monthly meeting.
