THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A girl student of University College attempted suicide in college campus on Friday morning by slicing her wrist vein. The girl hailing from Attingal and a first year degree student, was found in unconscious state in woman’s resting room. She had also swallowed an overdose of pain killers.
The girl who is currently admitted to Medical College is out of danger.
In her two-page detailed suicide note she has written that the University Union leaders used to force her to skip class and attend Union functions and even Union-led strikes in the college. Due to this she had to miss many class lessons. Even during exam time, she was asked to come out for the Union’s programmes. Despite complaining to the Principal, no action was taken and her classmates also didn’t respond out of scare for the political party that backed the union. She had also shared his pains on the social media.
The girl had left home on Thursday and she didn’t return, she had also switched off her mobile phone in the evening. As the girl didn’t return, the parents complained to the Attingal police. It was the college staff who saw her in the rest room next morning.
Attingal police have started the inquiry. They are trying to find out whether any personal reason was behind it. They said further probe will be carried out only after recording the girl’s statement.
