KANNUR: An allegation was raised in CPM State Secretariat that State Chief Electoral Officer Tikaram Meena showed partiality in the bogus voting issue. After, this the leaders and party think tanks started contemplating on means to remove Meena ast the state’s chief electoral officer.
The other day CPM State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had also come down heavily on Tikaram.
In the secretariat meeting yesterday, it was decided to go ahead with procedures in consultation with party central leadership. Since the model code of conduct is in effect, it has also been decided to seek the advice of legal experts. This has become necessary since there may be technical hurdles in getting Meena removed, given the fact that the election results will be amounted on May 23.
As soon as the reports of bogus voting started coming out, Meena sough district collector’s report. Based on the report, he immediately gave instruction to file cases against fake voters. He also gave letter to the State election commission to disqualify the tainted panchayat member. But, the CPM stand is that Meena has no authority for this.
Tikaram Meena was selected from four-member panel recommended by the State government.
