THODUPUZHA: The police have been asked to file a case against the mother of seven-year-old child, who was allegedly beaten to death by her lover. The mother is currently under treatment in hospital.
It is Child Welfare board that has asked the police to file the case under Juvenile Justice Act 75.
According to the act, if the crime is proved, the accused will get the punishment up to 10 yr imprisonment and Rs 5 lakh fine. Currently, the child’s mother is under psychiatric treatment.

Meanwhile, the younger brother of the victim has been sent with the parents of his father.

This move was in accordance with the decision of Chiled Welfare Board.
The child’s grandmother (mother’s parent) said at the last minute that she would not part with the child and later, heeding to the instruction of the Social Welfare board, the police handed over the child to his father’s parents.

The elder son will live with his grandparents for one month.
Soon after last rites of the seven-year-old child, his mother and grandmother were shifted to the shelter home at Kattapana that is run by Kudumbashree. They were shifted with the permission of the district child welfare committee and Child Protection unit. This is a temporary shelter for women who are victims of domestic violence. They are usually allowed to stay here for seven days.
