KASARGODE: CPM leaders will not be made accused in the case related to the alleged murder of two Youth Congress leaders-Kripesh and Sharatlal in Periya on February 17.
Though the special team of Crime Branch had recorded the statements of an MLA and senior leaders in the district, it says that they have not done any crime so as to make them accused in the case. The team has also not got any evidence against top CPM leaders, according to reports.
There were earlier reports that CPM Uduma Area Secretary K Manikantan had helped the accused to go into hiding.
Crime Branch Officer DySP P M Pradeepan in his report submitted in the high court had said that leaders Balakrishnan, Gopan and Area Secretary Manikantan were at Velutholi when the accused reached there. But Manikantan maintained it was mere coincidental and he was on his way back from a house warming function. He claimed that he had not contacted anyone on phone over the incident.
The Crime branch had confirmed this fact in its investigation
The Crime Branch stand is that they won’t be able to make any one accused without proper evidence. The statements of K Kunjiraman MLA, former MLA K V Kunjiraman and K Manikantan were recorded as part of the case procedures.
With this development, the case is likely to be confined to 12 accused in the case. 11 among them have already been arrested. The only absconder is Subeesh, a loading worker at Periya.
