THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Suicide rates amongst students are on a steady rise year after year. Even after implementing several strategies like syllabus lightening, counseling and motivation classes, some students tend to end their life once the results are out.
As per the National Crime Records Bureau, India is the country with the highest number of student deaths. In 2015 alone, 2646 students committed suicide. On the day plus two results were out, four attempted suicide of which three students died.
There was a shocking incident at Kilimanoor in Thiruvananthapuram where a father thrashed his son for not securing A-plus grade in all subjects. Parents should be supportive of their kids even at times of failure.
According to education experts, India is the only nation in the world where students have to go through such tough syllabus at a young age. In other countries, Degree and Post-Graduation will be having tougher syllabus while giving importance to character development at schools. The style of education should change.
