KASARGOD: The postal ballot controversy in the Kerala Police is snowballing into a bigger crisis. The new allegation is that officials of the police department owing allegiance to the UDF did not get the postal ballot even after applying for it. Thirty three police officials of Bekal Police Station of Kasargod constituency did not obtain the ballots. 44 officials from here applied for postal ballot. However only 11 people got the ballot. The cops have lodged a complaint on the incident. Meantime, the version of the returning officer is that all those who applied have been given the postal ballot.

Allegation of bogus voting was levelled soon after the polls in the Kerala. Soon after this the allegation of postal ballot controversy stoked. As majority of officials of the police force are deployed for election duty in and out of the state, they are able to cast only postal votes. More than 54000 postal votes were given to police department as per application. In the wake of the controversy, many including opposition leader sought permission to permit postal ballots again after cancelling the present ones.
