KOCHI: The government had given the permission for prosecuting seven policemen in connection with the custodial death of the youth called Sreejith, hailing from Varappuzha.
The government has given the permission for prosecuting seven policemen including CI Christian Sam and SI Deepak. The order will come out on Tuesday. The Crime branch said that the charge sheet will be filed soon after receiving the order.
The seven accused in the custodial death case that had put the home department in the dock had been re-inducted into service in December after their suspension was revoked.
The home department had maintained that the charge sheet was ready and it was just awaiting the government permission.
The high court, which had accepted the government argument that the investigation was proceeding in the right direction, had rejected the parent’s demand for a CBI inquiry into the death.
In the house attack case of one Vasudevan, Rural Tiger Force had taken into custody Sreejith. Later he died in a private hospital in Ernakulam, on April 9, 2018. The death was found to be due fatal internal injuries. The post-mortem report said that the immediate reason for death was the kick he received on his underbelly.
