THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The DRI investigating team found that an advocate team is among the intermediaries on the gold smuggled at the international airport in the capital city. It was found that the mission to carry gold worth Rs 8 crore via airport was assigned to Sunil, a native of Thirumala by two advocates. These advocates fled to safety after Sunil was arrested. Sunil, a conductor had smuggled gold earlier also. The DRI clarified that this team including goons and advocates are very active in the capital city. A search has been intensified for the advocates involved in the incident.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence had the other day taken into custody two from Oman for carrying 25 kilograms of gold. The gold smuggled was worth Rs 8 crore. This is the biggest gold hunt of the DRI. The two reached the airport via Oman Airways. On the basis of secret information, the two were taken into custody by the DRI from the customs hall. The gold bars of one kilo weight was wrapped in a black paper and hidden in the handbag.
Sunil and the other identified as Zarina of Kazhakuttom, flew to Dubai two days back. They got the gold from there. It has been hinted that some crucial details have been obtained on the gold smuggling mafia after questioning the two.
