NEYYATTINKARA: The family of the mother-daughter duo that committed suicide at Marayamuttom has turned against the bank. Chandran, the husband of Lekha, has said that the bank authorities have frequently threatened. He said that the bank didn’t allow the family to repay the loan by selling the house and threatened to confiscate the property today. The bank authorities also said that the allowed time for repayment had run out.
Lekha and Vaishnavi set them ablaze today afternoon. Vaishnavi died and the mother Lekha was taken to the hospital with 90 percent burns where she succumbed to her injuries.
Chandran said they had taken a loan of Rs 5 lakh from the Neyyatinkara branch of the Canara bank to build a house. They had repaid Rs 8 lakh and had to pay Rs 4 lakh again. Meanwhile, the Tahsildar said that the revenue officials didn’t attempt a confiscation. Revenue minister E. Chandrasekharan has sought a report on the incident.
