KOCHI: The High Court overturned the govt action to change the public prosecutor assigned by the previous government in the Anchery Baby murder case which had the involvement of Minister M.M. Mani. Adv. Sibi Chenappadi can continue with the prosecution.
The verdict was on a plea filed by Anchery Baby’s brother George to overturn the govt decision to change the prosecutor with political interest.
The High Court found petitioners allegations to be of substance.
Sibi Chennappadi was assigned as the public prosecutor due to his experience and because politicians were involved. Sibi Chenappadi had submitted a plea to add three more people into the culprit list as he found that they were omitted.
The prosecutor’s plea was accepted by the court. The govt. appointed N.K. Unnikrishnan instead of Sibi Chenappadi on July 4.
The govt argued that it is within the rights of the govt to change public prosecutor.
Anchery Baby was murdered on November 13, 1982. The case which was initially dismissed by the court was reopened as M.M. Mani’s speech on May 25, 2012, became a topic of discussion
