KANNUR: The renovated kids’ ward at Peravoor Taluk Hospital will now have the pictures of Mickey Mouse and Dora, along with 22 beds, cycle, and other toys. For those who have doubts whether this is an achievement, there is a story of a doctor who worked behind it; a doctor who was everyone’s favorite, Dr. Deepak.
The ward was renovated in the supervision of a trust which was formed as a memorial for Dr. Deepak, who was killed in the 2015’s earthquake at Nepal. Deepak’s classmates and family spent Rs 2 lakhs for this.
It was earlier decided that the renovated ward should be inaugurated on April 25, the memorial day of Deepak. But due to elections, this is now postponed to the end of this month.
A hospital which is like Play School at his native place was one of the biggest wishes of Deepak, the son of Kalapurakkal Thomas and Moli. After MBBS at Kozhikode Medical College, he came to a primary health center in Wayanad. During his vacations, he went to Nepal with friend Dr. A. S. Irshad. Both died in the earthquake as the hotel in which they stayed collapsed.
